Interpreter, Educational Lvl 1

About the role

The Educational Interpreter, Level 1, facilitates communication between hearing individuals and students who are deaf or hard of hearing, supporting equal access during various educational activities.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpreting or transliterating services for students and school functions.
• Prepares and reviews materials for interpreting services.
• Collaborates with the educational team to promote equal access.
• Updates appropriate members of the educational team regarding student performance.
• Interprets for assigned students or classrooms.
• Maintains professional interpreting credentials and engages in ongoing professional development.
• Attends in-service programs and meetings as directed.
• Demonstrates continued interest in self-improvement regarding interpreting skills and the educational process.

Requirements

• Experience in educational interpreting preferred.
• EIPA score of 3.0 - 3.4.
• Member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
• Fluency in English and the appropriate heritage language (American Sign Language).
