About the role
Interprets between Spanish-speaking patients/families and hospital service providers.
Responsibilities
- Conducts patient/family interactions with respect for differing cultures, beliefs, and levels of understanding.
- Maintains an efficient and accurate system for logging and fulfilling interpretation requests for all Spanish-speaking patients.
- Maintains written translation needs and verbal interpretation needs to develop effective methods to meet these needs.
- Provides accurate written translations for all documents translated to Spanish.
- Identifies opportunities to improve patient care and maintains quality improvement data.
- Affords informal and formal training to hospital providers to enhance their understanding and respect for cultural differences.
- Mediates cultural issues for both staff and families.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-related differences and needs in appropriate, specific pediatric populations.
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
- Supports the mission, values, and goals of the organization through consistent behaviors that align with the CCMC STANDARDS.
Qualifications
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English.
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Undergraduate degree in human services or related field, preferred.
- Bicultural background preferred.
