Internship, Electronic Design Engineer, Radio Frequency (Winter/Spring 2027)
This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the Spring term (ending approximately May 2027) or into Summer 2027 if available. A minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, is required. Our internship program is for students actively enrolled in an academic program. International students must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site; consult your school regarding CPT work authorization.

The Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. Our year-round program places students in positions where they will grow technically, professionally, and personally through hands-on experience working closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team. Interns are included in projects critical to their team’s success, providing a real-life experience at Tesla.
Multiple locations: Fremont, CA; Palo Alto, CA.
Responsibilities
Your application will be considered for the following teams and their respective responsibilities:
- Antenna team: Design, integration, test, and production of antenna solutions in a fast-paced product development environment. Enhance vehicle connectivity and wireless data features.
- Audio Software team: Responsible for audio system integration and quality from transducers to software, improving audio quality in all automotive audio features.
- EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) team: Work on product design, simulation, debugging, and testing for EMC for current and next-generation vehicle programs. Focus on filtering, shielding, ESD protection, and regulatory compliance for radio noise, emissions, immunity, and homologation. Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, vehicle integration, harness, and homologation teams.
- Radio Turner team: Work on radio turner product development, including architecture, hardware, software, and functionality.
- Audio Engineering team: Develop audio systems for Tesla vehicles and robots. Design and test electrical systems, measure audio components (microphones and speakers), and evaluate sound quality and speech intelligibility through acoustic simulations.
- Wireless Hardware team: Explore and develop new technologies such as UWB, WiFi, and Bluetooth. Design, develop, and test hardware systems enabling seamless communication between vehicles and users.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electromagnetics, Radio Frequency Engineering, Antenna Design, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical, or a related field.
- Strong skills in Python/numpy, MATLAB, C/C++, or equivalent tools for modeling and analysis.
- Experience with radio frequency, analog, and digital circuit design.
- Experience with PCB design and component selection.
- Experience using test and measurement equipment for radio frequency, such as spectrum analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and arbitrary waveform generators.
- Familiarity with an EM 3D design tool is a plus.
- Basic understanding of acoustics and best practices for acoustic measurement.
- Understanding of digital signal processing principles, such as digital audio format filtering.
- Strong data analysis, report writing, and presentation skills.

Pay
Expected compensation: $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits. Pay may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Schedule
Full-time, on-site, with a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. Internships are available for the Spring term (January 2027 - May 2027) with potential extension into Summer 2027.
