About the role
The Financial Crime Compliance team includes the Transaction Monitoring Group (TMG), Sanctions Compliance, and KYC Advisory. TMG manages the Bank’s automated transaction monitoring system, reviews generated cases, and conducts manual processes to identify and report unusual activity. The Sanctions Compliance team ensures compliance with OFAC regulations, and KYC Advisory supports front-office and KYC teams on client-related matters.
Responsibilities
- Support the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery, corruption, and cybercrime through SG facilities.
- Review negative news articles to identify potential financial crime nexus in geographies with SG presence or risk exposure.
- Maintain and review the ongoing negative news log, identify relevant names, and conduct transaction searches to determine if FIU investigations are warranted.
- Manage the FIU Portal through entries and transactional searches on parties identified in news sources.
- Recommend courses of action for events, seeking managerial guidance for unusual or uncommon situations.
- Conduct documented enhanced due diligence on individuals and entities using available resources, applying risk-based judgment to develop findings and recommendations.
- Review 314(a) alerts generated bi-weekly.
- Investigate Internal Fraud Escalations from various Business Units, conduct FIU case investigations, and prepare SARCs and SARs for return of funds, business email compromise, or other fraud-related escalations from Global Transactions and Payments Services (GTPS).
- Document and support judgments, decisions, and rationale clearly and consistently, maintaining accurate records per TMG policies.
- Apply project management and organizational skills to tasks, including ad-hoc assignments, and collaborate on initiatives and projects sponsored by management.
- Support the Sanctions Compliance team on OFAC regulatory compliance matters, including reviewing sanctions-related static data alerts.
- Identify OFAC compliance issues, suggest corrective actions, and implement solutions to improve controls and operations.
- Stay updated on SG Group sanctions policies, OFAC sanctions, and reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize approach, methodology, and rationale.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- BA/BS degree required.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years in Financial Crime case investigations or a similar environment (preferable).
- Experience assisting with AML/OFAC special projects or implementing new/updated AML/OFAC procedures (preferable).
- Strong research skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SAS (case management system).
- Experience with online research systems, including web-based tools.
- Knowledge of geopolitics, geographies, and languages, with the ability to apply them to the Anti-Financial Crime field.
