International Program Director

About the role

Program Directors help lead groups of approximately 20 college students and are responsible for creating a safe, organized, fun, and memorable experience throughout the program. Each program is staffed by at least two Program Directors. This is a paid seasonal international role with opportunities to lead Toucan Abroad programs in Greece, Spain, or Costa Rica. Housing is provided for the duration of each assigned program. Applicants may be based anywhere.

Responsibilities

• Helping oversee day-to-day program operations and the student experience
• Supporting students throughout their time abroad
• Coordinating group meals, activities, excursions, and transportation logistics
• Communicating with local clinics, vendors, and Toucan Abroad partners as needed
• Managing unexpected situations and solving problems in real time
• Maintaining appropriate expectations and boundaries with students
• Helping create a positive, welcoming group environment
• Representing Toucan Abroad professionally throughout the program

Program Dates

• Winter: January 2–16, 2027
• Summer Session 1: May 15–June 5, 2027
• Summer Session 2: June 5–June 26, 2027
• Summer Session 3: June 26–July 17, 2027

Qualifications

There is no single professional background required to be a successful Toucan Abroad Program Director. Strong candidates are typically:

• Responsible, organized, and dependable
• Socially confident and comfortable leading groups
• Calm and level-headed when things do not go according to plan
• Strong communicators
• Flexible and adaptable
• Comfortable making decisions and solving problems independently
• Excited to work closely with college-aged students
• Comfortable traveling internationally and navigating unfamiliar environments

Experience in leadership, international travel, student programming, healthcare, education, hospitality, coaching, or similar roles is valuable but not required. Physical Therapy or healthcare experience is helpful, but you do not need to be a Physical Therapist or healthcare professional to apply. Spanish, Greek, or other language proficiency is a plus but not required.
