Job Responsibilities

This officer will be tasked with coordinating Law Enforcement Education Programs within Region 4, Units A, B & D (Horry, Georgetown and Berkeley County).

  • Supervising operations of the Law Enforcement Education Section in assigned region.
  • Properly managing Hunter and Boater Education programs and ensuring adequate course availability.
  • Carrying out safety and/or ethics presentations and addressing civic and youth groups as required.
  • Aiding with the Marine Law Enforcement Boating School as needed.
  • Aiding with beneficial outreach programs such as National Archery In Schools, Scholastic Clay Target Sports, and Take One Make One (TOMO) programs within assigned region and other regions when available.
  • Training new volunteer instructors (boater/hunter/trapper/archery) who reside in assigned region.
  • Evaluating current volunteer instructors to ensure that program standards are maintained.
  • Delivering necessary supplies to volunteer instructors.
  • Conducting live fire range programs that support and reinforce instruction given in the classroom. Ranges will be conducted as requested (provided adequate range facilities are available), and will be operated as prescribed by Department guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintaining necessary SCCJA certifications.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two (2) years experience as a DNR Class I Law Enforcement Officer.
  • Potential preferred qualifications include extensive knowledge of South Carolina laws and regulations pertaining to game, fish and boating law enforcement, ability to work with teachers and volunteer instructors in middle and high schools throughout the state, good communication skills as well as organizational skills, ability to handle firearms in a safe and responsible manner, ability to operate motorboats, and have the capability of utilizing a variety of audio visual and other instructional equipment used to conduct presentations.
