INTERNAL ONLY: TOSA - Intervention Specialist (LAWNDALE)
2026–2027 school year assignment at Lawndale High School. Position is subject to District operational needs and may be adjusted during the year, including reassignment to a classroom teaching role.
About the role
An Intervention Specialist assists site administration with the coordination of intervention programs and the implementation of 1:1 monitoring and data chats with students. The focus is on improving student attendance, academics, and behavior while helping students adhere to their college and career plans.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with CTE Student Support Specialists to plan and implement school-wide student-expectations assemblies.
- Conduct student-expectations assemblies, including programmatic and pathway-specific expectations.
- Analyze student attendance, academic, and behavior data.
- Identify students in need of interventions and recommend appropriate programs.
- Monitor students assigned to intervention programs.
- Support teachers in developing and implementing classroom-based interventions.
- Conduct restorative and community-building circles.
- Engage in a cycle of analysis and intervention for students within an identified range of achievement:
- Develop a list of target students based on identified metrics (academics—grades, PSAT, Interim Assessments, etc.—attendance, and progress toward graduation).
- Conduct 1:1 mobile student data chats outside, but near, the student’s classroom; chats always include progress toward graduation and alignment of post-high-school aspirations with current levels of accomplishment.
- Maintain a log of all student data chats and provide a weekly report.
- Communicate regularly with the student’s assigned counselor to ensure timely, specific wrap-around services.
- After the first round of data chats, analyze the data to identify progress, summarize findings, and report to the site leadership/support team.
- Restart the cycle with a new list of target students.
- Support teachers’ engagement with the four critical PLC questions and PLC structures.
- Conduct site attendance intervention meetings (SART) and attend district attendance intervention meetings (SARB).
- Advise at student support meetings (SSTs, IEPs, BIPs, etc.).
- Implement and monitor PBIS and the school-site PBIS action plan.
- Implement and monitor the student attendance and school-site attendance action plan.
- Monitor students during passing periods, nutrition, and lunch.
- Proactively communicate with parents regarding student progress toward identified attendance, academic, and behavior goals and interventions implemented.
- Conduct parent/community outreach and workshops.
- Perform threat assessments and manage crisis events.
- Attend site-level and district-level professional development and/or planning meetings (collaboration, faculty, Intervention Specialists, etc.).
- Act as the Principal’s Designee over student discipline when no administrators are present on campus.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, or designee.
Requirements
- Valid Clear California Teaching Credential.
- Three years of full-time teaching experience within CVUHSD.
- Permanent status within the district.
- At least four years of secondary-level teaching experience.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting.
- Effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
- Classroom management expertise.
- Trained, or willing to be trained, in and implement District-led initiatives, strategies, and supports.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in education or a related field (desirable).
- CA Administrative Services Credential or Certificate of Eligibility (desirable).
- Experience with PowerSchool searches and reports (desirable).
- Experience coordinating and evaluating programs or academies (desirable).
- Experience with academic, attendance, and behavior intervention (desirable).
- Experience with community outreach (desirable).
- Experience with Restorative Practices (desirable).
- Experience with IEPs, BIPs, SSTs, and 504s (desirable).
- Knowledge of CA Education Code regarding discipline and attendance (desirable).
- Spanish fluency (desirable).
Pay
Salary Schedule D. Summer hours compensated at a rate of $55/hour.
Schedule
Teacher Work Calendar. Daily schedule: 420 minutes, exclusive of a 35-minute duty-free lunch (exact hours determined by supervisor). Flex hours by up to 7 hours per month to accommodate after-school, evening, and weekend events; additional flex hours may be scheduled by mutual agreement.
