General Services Technician

About the role

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise in Wise, VA is seeking a General Services Technician to join the Facilities Management team. The technician will support the department with a variety of projects and maintenance needs across campus, may rotate through different trades to develop a broad skill set, and will work with limited supervision either independently or as part of a team. This position is based in Wise, Virginia, in the far southwestern corner of the state near the Kentucky and Tennessee borders.

Responsibilities

• Moving and installing materials and equipment
• Demolition
• Event setup
• Basic cleaning and clearing
• Signage installation
• Snow removal and other seasonal campus needs
• Assisting various Facilities Management trades with projects and maintenance needs
• Using basic hand tools and power tools
• Performing work in accordance with safety rules, policies, and procedures (OSHA and applicable regulations)
• Communicating effectively with campus departments regarding work order status
• Being dependable, willing to take direction, and assisting with problem‑solving as needed
• Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in electrical, plumbing, and/or carpentry preferred
• No licensure required
• Ability to crawl, kneel, bend, twist, climb ladders, handle materials of varying weights, and perform repetitive motions
• Successful completion of a background check prior to employment
• Submission of a cover letter, CV/resume, and three professional references
