About the role
The Wardrobe Dept Internship offers aspiring designers and technicians the opportunity to work alongside experienced wardrobe managers in a hands-on environment. Interns will gain direct experience with costume design, construction, maintenance, and styling, while engaging with a variety of materials, techniques, and collaborative processes. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build practical skills, deepen their understanding of costume work beyond the classroom, and explore the day-to-day operations of a professional wardrobe department.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of costumes for various productions.
- Collaborate with wardrobe managers and designers to ensure costumes meet production standards.
- Learn and apply techniques for costume construction, including sewing, draping, and pattern making.
- Engage with a wide range of materials and collaborate with other departments such as props and makeup.
- Participate in the fitting process and provide feedback to designers and performers.
- Support the inventory management and organization of costumes.
Requirements
Required:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in fashion design, costume design, theater arts, or a related field.
- Strong interest in costume design and construction.
- Basic knowledge of sewing and draping techniques.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a similar internship or relevant work setting.
- Experience with digital design software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
- Knowledge of fabric care and preservation techniques.
