Intern - SDPB Journalism (Fall)
Position Description
Intern Reporters will learn and perform duties equal to those of an entry-level professional Multi-Media Reporter in a public radio/public media environment. Interns cover and report a variety of news stories in person, over internet, or over phone; write for broadcast and for web (sdpb.org/news); gain experience producing and editing audio and/or video for broadcast and web using Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro or other similar software.
Successful applicants will participate in live unscripted question/answer interviews with show host; host live news programs as needed and as skill level and aptitude allow; possible assignment with professional Radio, TV producers or reporters. They will exercise basic news judgement as well as other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
- By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
- All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
Spring and Fall
- Interns work up to 20 hours per week as schedule allows.
Requirements
- Basic proficiency in Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, or other digital linear audio and video editing software.
- The ability to operate basic recording equipment, video and still camera equipment and news reporting skills are required.
