About the role

The Monitoring Systems and Technology Intern Center (MSTIC) program seeks to recruit outstanding graduate students majoring in various science, engineering, and math fields. These students will work on projects that support nuclear proliferation detection, ensure the development of remote sensing and verification systems, and manufacture high-consequence products.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of technical principles and processes.
  • Understand and utilize a variety of research tools.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Contribute positively to team environments.
  • Show proficiency in project management.
  • Be proficient in a suite of software, including Microsoft Office.

Requirements

  • Earned bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Capable of working up to 30 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees, or refugees in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Average GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 for all degrees earned.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of an engineering or science-related field as listed in the required section.

Skills

Students should demonstrate extensive knowledge of a suite of software, including Microsoft Office, and possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Security Clearance

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. However, employees in New Mexico may need to undergo a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. Applicants for a DOE security clearance must be U.S. citizens.
