Job Overview
The AltaMed Intern will be trained as a Health Equity Patient Navigator and Medical Scribe. The Intern will support AltaMed Providers in providing quality customer service and improve health outcomes by lowering patient barriers.
Responsibilities
- Connect patients to resources and provide health education to help patients navigate the healthcare system.
- Follow up with patients to ensure resources have been acquired and document these efforts.
- Learn and apply case management skills to help patients understand their options.
- Record patient symptoms, history, physical exams, and diagnoses as instructed by the provider.
- Auxiliary with documentation of patient visits, including procedures performed.
- Transcribe lab, x-ray, and evaluation results into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Document proper diagnoses and follow-up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the provider.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Good personal organization skills, able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize time effectively.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Can type at least 40 words per minute.
- Able to handle confidential information.
- Able to work effectively with all levels of management.
- Willing to take initiative and work as part of a team.
- Patience, curiosity, and willingness to learn, along with respect for differing perspectives and ideas.
- Commitment to the mission of the project and its impact in the community.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a college degree in a health-related field preferred.
- Spanish language skills preferred.
- Previous clinical experience preferred (6 months - 1 year).
