Project Intern

Location: St. Paul, MN. Entry‑level Project Engineer Intern position, part of Big‑D Construction’s college internship program, limited to graduates of the 2027‑2029 school years.

About the role

The intern will assist the Project Manager with a variety of construction project tasks, including writing and tracking RFIs, reviewing submittals, supporting change orders, maintaining construction drawings, and helping with subcontract and schedule administration. The role also supports the Superintendent with punch‑list management and other on‑site activities while gaining exposure to field and office environments.

Responsibilities

• Write and track Requests for Information (RFIs) and create related records in Procore.
• Review and process submittals.
• Assist in preparing and managing change orders.
• Maintain and update construction drawings.
• Support subcontract and schedule administration, including modifying schedules in Primavera P6.
• Assist the Superintendent with punch‑list management and other field tasks.
• Generate daily reports and other project documentation.
• Participate in New Hire Orientation and safety programs, including completing TH!NK forms and personal safety interactions (PSI).
• Engage in construction technology training, including Bluebeam Studio sessions and Procore operation.
• Observe and learn construction reporting, safety, quality, scheduling, technology, and cost management.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a 4‑year college degree in Construction Management or a related field.
• Formal engineering, architectural training, or equivalent construction experience is highly desirable.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with a desire to learn.
• Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proficiency with required computer applications; basic understanding of scheduling programs preferred.
• Willingness to complete an in‑person interview at hiring and an exit interview at internship completion.
