About the role
We are seeking a motivated Software Engineering Intern to support the development of our embedded product portfolio, including LoRa, Wi-Fi, UWB, 5G, and BLE devices such as trackers, LoRa badges, SigFox buttons, and mesh devices. This internship focuses on achieving best-in-class battery life through intelligent power management, ensuring high performance and reliability in real-world applications.
Key outcomes
- Reduce power consumption while maintaining device performance
- Enhance robustness across diverse operating scenarios
- Deliver production-quality validation and documentation for scalable deployment
Responsibilities
- Define and implement system-level and component-level power strategies (sleep states, wake sources, duty cycling) to minimize current draw without sacrificing performance
- Develop embedded firmware modules supporting LoRa, Wi-Fi, UWB, 5G, and BLE, including drivers, state machines, and multi-radio coordination logic
- Design and execute tests for corner cases and real-world conditions, including stress testing and long-duration validation
- Analyze datasheets and reference designs to configure modes, power states, and RF settings accurately
- Collaborate with chip vendors to clarify behaviors, request application notes, and resolve issues
- Support debugging in the lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs, addressing hardware and signal integrity issues
- Implement and validate low-power modes across MCUs and radios
- Measure and optimize current consumption in various operating modes
- Develop validation procedures and stress tests to prevent field failures
- Troubleshoot firmware/hardware interactions methodically
- Document findings and communicate effectively with teams and vendors
Requirements
- Coursework or experience in embedded systems and low-level programming
- Proficiency in C/C++ and familiarity with interfaces like I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, ADC, DMA
- Ability to interpret datasheets and implement register configurations
- Hands-on experience with lab tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM)
- Strong attention to detail and testing mindset
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with STM32, FreeRTOS, and power profiling/optimization
- Familiarity with wireless stacks (LoRaWAN, BLE, Wi-Fi) and RF integration
- Experience building test utilities, automation scripts, or CI regression testing
- Ability to review hardware schematics and troubleshoot board-level issues
Competencies
- Systems Thinking: Optimizes across MCU, radios, sensors, and power components
- Methodical Debugging: Isolates issues with a root-cause approach and validates solutions
- Quality Ownership: Anticipates scenarios and proactively enhances product robustness
- Communication: Provides clear updates, documentation, and vendor interactions
Pay
$25 - $40 per hour
