About the role
The Historic Trades internships at Colonial Williamsburg offer ten to twelve-week experiences working with the Historic Trades department. These internships allow participants to assist full-time staff in operations such as interpretation, demonstration, production, and research.
Responsibilities
- Interprets and demonstrates trades to guests
- Engages in production activities
- Undertakes assigned research projects
- Provides outstanding customer service
- Fulfills safety and security procedures
- Ensures adherence to safety and security procedures in absence of supervisor and journeymen
- Performs other related duties as required
Requirements
- High School Diploma or HSE
- Valid Virginia driver's license with acceptable driving record
- At least 21 years old
- No more than 1 moving violation or at-fault accident within 12 months
- No more than 2 moving violations or at-fault accidents within 36 months
- Able to provide a 5-year Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment
- Enrollment or completion in an undergraduate program in American History or related field
- Experience working with the trade
- Interest in 18th-century material culture
- Previous living history museum experience
- Familiarity with Colonial Williamsburg Historic Trades program
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Strong knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft 365
- Ability to work independently and with minimal direction
- Flexible scheduling ability, including weekends
- Able to work safely with heat and sharp tools

Compensation
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $12.77 to $18.61 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as the selected candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and the specific requirements of the role.
