Intern - Medical and Clinical Psychology

About the role

HJF is seeking an Intern to support the Suicide Care, Prevention, and Research (CPR) Initiative within the Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) Department at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. This is a temporary, part-time, remote position for approximately five hours per week over a 90-day period.

The Intern will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team examining topics pertaining to military mental health and suicide prevention. The ideal candidate will have prior military experience and/or prior research experience with military populations.

The Suicide CPR Initiative, previously known as the Laboratory for the Treatment of Suicide-Related Ideation and Behavior (established in 2006), is led by Dr. Holloway, a clinical psychologist and intervention scientist focused on developing and evaluating novel interventions for suicide risk reduction. The initiative is uniquely positioned to address military suicide, given its origins at USU and partnerships with the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and national/international collaborators.

The mission of the Suicide CPR Initiative is threefold:

• CARE: Develop effective interventions to reduce suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors.
• PREVENTION: Save lives through education, intervention, science, and advocacy.
• RESEARCH: Advance suicide intervention science and practice.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine, serving military, medical, academic, and government clients since 1983.

Responsibilities

• Assists the research team with basic tasks supporting suicide prevention research projects under supervision.
• Helps organize research materials, study documents, files, and other project-related information.
• Assists with basic data entry, organization, and coding activities as directed.
• Supports literature searches and helps identify and organize relevant research articles and resources.
• Assists with formatting and preparing research materials, reports, presentations, and other study documents.
• Participates in team meetings, trainings, and other research activities as appropriate.
• Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 0-2 years of experience.

Skills

• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks.

Work Environment

This position will take place primarily in a remote office setting.

Pay

$18.00 hourly rate.
