About the role
Build your legal experience where law meets business. Pelican is looking for a motivated Legal Intern to join our in-house Legal team and gain hands-on experience across a variety of corporate legal matters. You’ll work alongside experienced legal professionals, contribute to real business projects, and gain exposure to areas such as contracts, employment law, corporate governance, compliance, litigation, and intellectual property. This is a great opportunity for a law student who wants to go beyond the classroom, strengthen their research and writing skills, and learn how an in-house Legal team partners with the business to solve problems, manage risk, and support a global organization.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on statutes, regulations, case law, and emerging legal issues and translate findings into clear, actionable summaries
- Assist with drafting and reviewing legal memoranda, correspondence, contracts, policies, and other legal documents
- Gain hands-on exposure to commercial contracts, employment matters, litigation, corporate governance, compliance, and intellectual property
- Support contract administration, document review, legal recordkeeping, and organization of corporate legal files
- Assist in preparing materials for meetings, negotiations, litigation matters, compliance reviews, and other legal proceedings
- Support corporate governance activities, regulatory filings, and special compliance projects
- Participate in Legal team meetings and collaborate with attorneys and business partners across the organization
- Help explore opportunities to leverage AI and emerging legal technologies to improve research, workflows, and efficiency
- Handle confidential legal and business information with professionalism and discretion
- Take on special projects that provide exposure to the day-to-day work of an in-house corporate Legal Department
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program or other applicable legal studies program
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to balance multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines
- High level of professionalism, integrity, judgment, and discretion
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
