About the role

The Caton Companies is comprised of five companies that combine to form an alliance of nearly 500 employees in 12 markets in 6 states. These companies include Management Services Corporation (MSC), one of Virginia’s leading property management companies; Caton Construction Group, a heavy civil contractor performing public and private contracts in Virginia and North Carolina; Park Lane Finance Solutions, a mortgage finance company providing loans in 12 states in the eastern and midwestern USA; Manufactured Housing Enterprises, a land-lease company providing affordable solutions for manufactured housing communities in Virginia; and Maple Tree Rentals, which provides rent-to-own services for prefabricated sheds and other buildings throughout Virginia.

We are seeking a summer Human Resources Intern for a 10–12 week internship in Charlottesville, Virginia. Position will start in late May or early June, 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting and hiring activities, including posting job openings, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, and communicating with candidates.
  • Assist with new-hire onboarding, including preparing orientation materials, assembling new-hire packets, and coordinating onboarding activities.
  • Maintain and update employee records and HR files, ensuring information is accurate and organized.
  • Assist with employee data entry in the HRIS and other HR systems.
  • Help coordinate background checks, employment verifications, and other pre-employment requirements.
  • Assist with benefits administration, including preparing enrollment materials and responding to routine employee questions.
  • Help maintain and update HR policies, forms, procedures, and training materials.
  • Assist with employee engagement activities, recognition programs, and company events.
  • Prepare HR reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and other documents as requested.
  • Assist with HR compliance and recordkeeping, including organizing required documentation and conducting routine audits.
  • Assist with offboarding activities, including preparing paperwork and coordinating exit processes.
  • Respond to routine employee and manager inquiries or direct questions to the appropriate HR team member.
  • Conduct research on HR topics, employment trends, recruiting practices, and workplace initiatives.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties in support of the HR department.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information at all times.
  • Participate in special projects and other HR initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or a related field.
  • Open to students who have successfully completed sophomore-level classes and above.
