Summary

This Open Continuous Announcement is for Intermittent Clinical Laboratory Scientist positions at the East Orange VA - part of the New Jersey VA Health Care System. Selected candidates will rotate through various laboratory sections, performing complex diagnostic testing, validating results, maintaining laboratory instruments, and ensuring accuracy and quality in patient care.

About the Role

As generalists, these positions require a broad range of routine and complex laboratory procedures. Duties include analyzing and correcting problems, organizing workload, prioritizing tests, evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing, maintaining and documenting optimal instrument performance, diagnosing deviations in test performance, interpreting results, and implementing new techniques and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a broad range of routine and complex laboratory procedures
  • Analyzing and correcting problems using scientific principles
  • Interpreting and applying complex written instructions
  • Evaluating and solving problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens
  • Maintaining and documenting optimal instrument performance
  • Using independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results
  • Performing and documenting quality control and quality assurance activities
  • Interpreting findings and making recommendations
  • Communicating effectively as part of the healthcare team
  • Adhering to biosafety, biosecurity, and infection prevention regulations

Requirements

  • Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship
    • English Language Proficiency
    • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
    • Certification: Generalist certification as an MLS given by ASCP BOC or AMT
