Intermediate Hydrogeologist

About the role

Stantec is seeking an Intermediate Level Hydrogeologist to support hydrogeologic studies for regional and international mining industry clients. The primary focus is on complex projects related to industrial water supply, mine dewatering, acid rock drainage, metal leaching, mineral precipitation, pit lake chemistry, water-rock interactions, and mine permitting. The successful candidate will work within multi-disciplinary teams to design and execute baseline studies, feasibility studies, and other hydrogeological investigations. Travel to remote sites will be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary conceptual hydrogeological models to support field program design
• Design and oversee implementation of hydrogeology field investigations, including drilling and logging of overburden and bedrock core, and sampling of soil, groundwater, and bedrock
• Design and oversee installation of monitoring wells, supply wells, dewatering wells, and vibrating wire piezometers
• Design and oversee single well and multi-well aquifer test programs
• Support development of numerical groundwater models to assess dewatering requirements and environmental impact
• Prepare field data summary reports, including lithologic logs
• Travel as required to various field sites, with occasional overnight stays (valid driver’s license required)
• Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines for planning and executing work safely
• Maintain strong communication and collaborative working relationships with cross-disciplinary teams

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or a related discipline (master’s degree preferred)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in hydrogeology or related field
• Experience using GIS tools
• Experience using hydrogeologic analytical tools for interpretation of aquifer test results
• Experience with groundwater modeling tools such as MODFLOW or FEFLOW (preferred but not required)
• Professional license (PG) or ability to obtain one
• Strong technical writing and organizational skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and oral communication skills
• Foreign language skills are a plus

Pay

Annual pay range: $80,300 – $116,500, depending on location, education, qualifications, and experience. Part-time roles will be pro-rated based on agreed working hours. Certain roles are bonus eligible.
