Duties

  • Aid licensed personnel during behavioral and psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting, including crisis intervention and management of aggressive or suicidal patients.
  • Provide one-to-one observation and utilize Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) techniques to ensure safety.
  • Use therapeutic communication skills such as active listening, restating, and mirroring to complete approved questionnaires and clinical templates.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment while promoting patient dignity under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Assist outpatient clinical staff in caring for patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening conditions.
  • Prepare patients for medical evaluation, set up equipment, pass instruments, and support treatment during in-person or virtual visits.
  • Operate specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic results.
  • Collect, label, and prepare a wide range of specimens for laboratory processing.
  • Observe and monitor patient condition, immediately reporting changes to licensed personnel.
  • Navigate and recognize life-threatening conditions and respond according to established protocols, initiating CPR and using an AED when certified and appropriate.
  • Perform clinical duties including obtaining vital signs.

Qualifications

  • To qualify at the GS-07 level - applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:
  • One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Intermediate Care Technician position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position.
  • Successfully completed one (1) year of graduate education or internship directly related to the position at the next lower grade level.
  • Equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total experience requirements for the position.
