Responsibilities
- Leadership: Conducts programming efforts such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination.
- Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function which is reflective of client goals and within project budget.
- Implements all phases of a design project which includes contracts, budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, documentation, specifications and construction, including the selection and specification of furniture.
- Maintains positive client relationships throughout project. Keeps client apprised of project progress on regular basis.
- Initiates and maintains contract with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues.
- Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary.
- Leads the Construction Administration phase responding to RFI’s, CO’s, reviewing shop drawings and involved in the field site reviews.
- Responsible for managing project using the Deltek Vision; complete work plans; including identification of project team members, budget, consultants, schedule for completion, fees and labor costs as well as project change notices or other actions taking place on the assigned project.
- Responsible for financial outcome of projects.
- Implements and utilizes HOK Standards for all projects and processes.
- Ensures project documentation and contracts are in compliance with the standards set forth by the Technical Board.
- Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
- Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
Teamwork
- Renders conceptual design ideas and prepares 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
- Prepares, corrects and updates documents during schematic design, design development and construction administration phases.
- Covers color and material palettes.
- Solicits bids and assists the Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of the materials, finishes, and furnishings required.
- Produces written documentation related to project including agreements, meeting documentation, transmittals, memoranda, etc. using HOK standard formats.
- Reviews documents for adherence to building and ADA codes.
- Oversees coordination and quality assurance of documents required to complete a project or phase of a project; ensures documents are in concert with design intent.
- Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants and other disciplines to ensure project details are carried out including technical issues and project information at all levels of contract administration.
- May assist in design presentations.
- May assist more senior staff with keeping a phase of a project on schedule.
- May provide support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise.
- Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.
Client Interface
- Represents client in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts.
- May assist with negotiating fees and contracts.
Staff Development
- Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff.
- Participates in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.
Business Development
- Explores and identifies new opportunities to add or enhance professional services with existing clients.
- Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
- Aids in development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.
- May participate in developing the annual business plan for the interiors discipline.
Education & Experience
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design or foreign equivalent.
- Prior experience in interiors projects required.
- Must be professional Interior Designer and have passed the NCIDQ exam or be a registered Architect with current license required.
- If registered Architect, NCARB registration preferred.
- LEED credential required within 12 months of employment.
