About the Role
This role focuses on kitchen, bathroom, closet, cabinetry, and tile design within residential remodeling projects. You will work closely with homeowners, contractors, vendors, and the production team to develop creative and functional designs while managing selections, cabinetry, tile layouts, budgets, timelines, and project details.
Responsibilities
- Meet with clients to understand their needs, preferences, lifestyle, and budget.
- Guide clients through the complete design and product-selection process.
- Develop creative and functional design concepts for:
- Kitchens
- Bathrooms
- Custom closet systems
- Built-ins
- Tile layouts
- Other residential remodeling spaces
- Create detailed plans incorporating space planning, design details, cabinetry, tile, fixtures, finishes, and product selections.
- Design and order custom and semi-custom cabinetry, including built-in closet systems.
- Develop tile layouts and coordinate tile selections and ordering.
- Work with external vendors and suppliers to select products and materials.
- Prepare, place, and track orders related to project selections.
- Monitor cabinetry and other product deliveries and verify orders upon receipt.
- Maintain accurate records of selections, orders, budgets, and project information in management software and job folders.
- Keep clients informed of selections, budgets, expenditures, and project timelines.
- Manage multiple remodeling projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and established time budgets.
- Coordinate selection timelines with clients to ensure the production team has the information and materials needed to keep projects on schedule.
- Visit active job sites during construction to help ensure the completed work follows the approved design.
- Work closely with the production department, contractors, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve design-related issues.
- Attend weekly production meetings.
- Maintain and organize the company's design/showroom areas for client visits.
- Complete required paperwork and documentation related to design and sales.
- Proactively identify potential issues and develop practical solutions.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
- 5+ years of kitchen and/or bathroom design experience.
- Experience using Chief Architect or comparable residential design software.
- Experience in residential remodeling or homebuilding.
- Strong knowledge of cabinetry design and construction.
- Experience with kitchen, bathroom, closet, and built-in design.
- Strong understanding of residential space planning and interior design.
- Knowledge of residential construction and architectural planning.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction plans.
- Ability to accurately measure spaces and perform basic drafting.
- Understanding of the purchasing process, including selecting, ordering, tracking, and receiving products.
- Strong computer skills, including:
- Chief Architect or similar software
- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft Excel
- Internet-based tools and systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent client presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) certification is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience working in a design-build remodeling environment.
- Experience working directly with homeowners, contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating completed residential kitchen, bathroom, cabinetry, closet, and/or remodeling projects.
