Interior Design Assistant - Part-time Carpenter

About the role

We're seeking a hybrid role combining the skills of a stylist and a carpenter. The ideal candidate will be based in the Hudson Valley area, within reasonable commuting distance from Highland, NY.

Responsibilities

• Build creative looks, vignettes, and accessory groupings for high-end stagings.
• Pull and curate accessories alongside our design team.
• Maintain the eye and standard that defines the CHDR brand.
• Repair, reinforce, and restore wood furniture using basic woodworking tools and techniques.
• Touch up and repair artwork and framing.
• Keep our inventory install-ready, sturdy, and pristine.
• Organize and maintain our accessories library and curated collection.
• Kit and stage accessories so the team can pull quickly and beautifully.
• Support both the Hudson Valley and Manhattan design teams as needed.

Requirements

• A genuine eye for styling, visual merchandising, or prop styling — ideally in home decor.
• Real carpentry skills — ability to repair, reinforce, and restore wood furniture, and comfort with basic woodworking tools and techniques.
• A self-starter who brings fresh ideas to inventory and creative looks.
• Impeccably organized and takes pride in a beautiful, orderly space.
• Not shy about physical work — staging and restoration are hands-on.
• Keeps up with trends in interior design and home staging.

Qualifications

• An AAS or BFA in Interior Design (a plus).
• Prior home staging or prop styling experience (a plus).
• Visual merchandising experience specifically in home decor (a plus).
