Interim Religious School Director
Position Summary
The Interim Religious School Director is responsible for the overall administration, supervision, and implementation of the Temple Beth Am HaMakom Religious School, serving students from Pre-K through 12th grade. This position ensures continuity of educational programming, supports instructional staff, and fosters strong relationships with students and families. The Director works collaboratively with clergy and synagogue staff to support the mission and values of the congregation.
What You'll Do
Program Administration
- Oversee all Religious School programming for students in Pre-K through 12th grade.
- Implement and maintain the existing curriculum and educational programming, including classroom instruction, tefillah, breakfast, and special events.
- Cook up and maintain the E-Vrit Hebrew program.
- Monitor student engagement and evaluate program effectiveness.
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and support teaching staff as needed.
- Conduct faculty observations and evaluations while providing ongoing mentorship and professional guidance.
- Lead faculty meetings and foster a collaborative, supportive teaching environment.
- Supervise the Madrichim (teen assistant) program and teen song leaders.
Family & Student Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Religious School and families.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and student progress.
- Foster a welcoming, responsive, and inclusive environment where students and families feel connected.
- Plan and coordinate family education programs and community-building events throughout the year.
Collaboration
- Partner closely with clergy and synagogue staff to align educational programming with the congregation's mission and goals.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and collaborative initiatives.
- Support the integration of Religious School programming into the broader life of the synagogue.
Operations & Logistics
- Oversee the day-to-day administration of the Religious School, including classroom scheduling, payroll submission, and budget monitoring.
- Cook up and coordinate educational materials, supplies, and facility usage.
- Ensure the smooth execution of weekly school sessions, holiday celebrations, and special events.
Working Environment
This position is based in a dynamic synagogue and school setting and includes Sunday mornings, weekday afternoons and evenings, and occasional participation in synagogue programs and events.
