Interim Housing and Residence Life Coordinator
About the Role
The Housing & Residence Life Coordinator (HRLC) manages day-to-day residential operations, including housing assignments, occupancy, student staff supervision, summer housing, community programming, student conduct, and crisis response. This full-time, live-in position collaborates with campus partners to support an inclusive and engaging residential community. Frequent evening and weekend commitments should be expected. Position ends 12/15/26.
Responsibilities
- Housing Operations
- Manages housing assignments, occupancy, room changes, waitlists, and consolidation processes.
- Maintains accurate housing records and eligibility information.
- Administers the housing database, including applications, assignments, billing, and occupancy reporting.
- Collaborates with Residence Life, Accounting, Registrar, International Student Affairs, and other campus partners.
- Student Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Supervises up to 14 student office assistants, including training, coaching, performance feedback, and payroll processes.
- Advises the Resident Student Staff Committee and supports student leadership development.
- Participates in RA selection, training, Move-In, Move-Out, and other Residence Life initiatives.
- Summer Housing & Programs
- Coordinates housing and programming for the SAIC Early College Program Summer Institute (ECPSI).
- Manages summer housing applications, assignments, billing, communications, check-in/check-out, and related operations.
- Partners with summer staff to ensure a positive student experience.
- Community Development & Communications
- Plans and supports residence hall programming and educational initiatives.
- Manages Residence Life social media and digital communications.
- Develops newsletters and other communications for residential students.
- Collaborates across campus to promote an inclusive residential community.
- Student Support, Conduct & Crisis Response
- Participates in a 24-hour on-call rotation and responds to student, facilities, and emergency situations.
- Provides support and follow-up for students experiencing distress or mental health concerns, including coordination with campus and community resources.
- Responds to critical incidents in partnership with Student Affairs, Campus Security, Wellness Center, and other departments.
- Adjudicates low-level student conduct cases using Symplicity.
- Campus Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
- Builds effective relationships with campus partners and communicates student and facility concerns appropriately.
- Participates in departmental meetings, planning, committees, and events.
- Supports DEI initiatives, student learning, and departmental goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Live-In Requirement
- Lives on campus and participates in evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities.
- Assists with student and facilities emergencies as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in residence life, student affairs, housing, or a related field.
- Experience supervising student staff and supporting student development.
- Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Experience working with diverse and multicultural populations and fostering an inclusive community.
- Knowledge of student support, crisis response, conflict resolution, and referrals.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, student-centered environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with housing or student conduct systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to walk between campus buildings and stand for extended periods during programs, orientation, Move-In/Move-Out, and other events.
Pay
The expected hiring range is an estimated amount for positions based on the grade. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
