We are currently seeking candidates for an Interim Controller opportunity at a well-respected manufacturing company located in Queens, NY. This is a 3+ month contract position supporting a hybrid work model (on-site 4 days and remote 1 day).
About the role
The Interim Controller will own core accounting operations (GL, AP/AR, month/year-end close), prepare financial statements, manage inventory accounting, ensure compliance with GAAP standards, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Own the full accounting close process, including preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage all general ledger activity within Microsoft Dynamics, ensuring accuracy and integrity of the core accounting system.
- Review payroll processed by the HR team through ADP, ensuring accuracy, proper GL coding, and compliance prior to finalization.
- Oversee basic inventory accounting, including standard costing, valuation, and reconciliation of inventory to the general ledger.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing functions through oversight of support staff.
- Prepare and analyze financial reporting packages, including budget-to-actual and variance analysis.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls appropriate for a lean manufacturing environment.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Coordinate with external tax preparers, auditors, and banking partners as needed.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to support scalability as the organization grows.
- Provide additional support as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- 12-15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including prior experience as a Controller and/or CFO.
- Strong background in manufacturing accounting required, ideally with organizations in the $30M-$100M revenue range.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics is required.
- Working knowledge of ADP or similar payroll platforms.
- Hands-on experience with inventory and standard cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner directly with operational and executive leadership.
- High attention to detail, balanced with the ability to think strategically about the broader business.
Pay
$100-$120/hour (depending on experience).
