Hybrid role based in Northwest Houston, TX: on-site two days per week for local candidates. This consulting project averages 32 hours per week (up to 40 during peak periods).
About the role
Interim Controller position for a high-growth managed services organization with less than $10 million in annual revenue. The role requires a hands-on financial leader to maintain clean books, prepare monthly Board of Directors presentations, partner with executive leadership, and handle M&A data requests.
Responsibilities
- Day-to-Day Accounting: Keep books clean, execute month-end close, perform bank and GL reconciliations, ensure proper booking of revenue, expenses, and COGS in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Board & Executive Reporting: Prepare, present, and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance reports, dashboards, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead annual budgeting, capital planning, and forecasting, with mandatory in-person availability for the November 2027 planning cycle.
- Operational Execution & Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with bookkeeper and executive leadership team. Oversee AR/AP, cash flow, financial risk, and internal controls.
- Strategic M&A Support: Provide financial modeling, due diligence, valuation analysis, and integration planning to handle periodic M&A requests and cash flow analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred (not required).
- Managed Service Provider (MSP) / IT services background highly desired (recurring revenue, MRR/ARR, service profitability, project accounting).
- Hands-on proficiency in QuickBooks Online is a must; experience with RAMP (payments/credit cards) and Halo PSA (integrated) preferred.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a mid-size company with >$50 million in revenue.
- Previous background at the CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller level ideal.
- Proven track record leading financial operations, managing small finance teams, and acting as a strategic partner to executive leadership and boards.
Team
Currently, only one Bookkeeper reports to this role, making this a very hands-on execution position.
