Interim Controller

About the role

We are partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity-backed technology company that is entering a transformational stage following a recent acquisition. The organization has experienced significant growth and now requires a hands-on accounting leader to establish financial discipline, rebuild historical accounting records, and create scalable processes that support future expansion.

Responsibilities

• Reconstruct accounting records from company inception through current operations
• Review and validate historical transactions, contracts, revenue agreements, and supporting documentation
• Establish and maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, accounting policies, and month-end close procedures
• Drive account reconciliations and balance sheet cleanup activities
• Evaluate historical revenue recognition and assist with proper accounting treatment under ASC 606
• Design and implement internal controls and financial reporting processes
• Oversee cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting operations
• Develop monthly financial reporting packages for management and investors
• Support quality of earnings and transaction-related diligence activities
• Partner with outside advisors, auditors, and ownership groups during the transition period
• Identify process improvement opportunities and establish scalable finance infrastructure
• Prepare detailed documentation and process manuals to facilitate transition to a permanent finance team
• Absorb and optimize existing accounting systems as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA strongly preferred
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager experience
• Experience rebuilding accounting records, conducting cleanup projects, or leading accounting transformations
• Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition
• Experience in software, SaaS, technology, startup, or private equity-backed environments preferred
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated experience creating accounting processes from scratch
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with modern accounting systems
