Responsibilities
- Directs a community program providing residents with a stimulating and varied calendar of events and activities addressing a wide range of resident needs.
- Serves as a role model and leader in resident socialization to the Life Engagement Department and the entire community team.
- Provides direct supervision for the Life Engagement team, including hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline.
- Serves as a member of the community management team and assists the Executive Director with other management duties as needed.
- Ensures department or project goals or milestones are met adhering to approved department or project budgets.
- Responsible for creating and timely distributing the monthly community newsletter and calendar.
- Serves as the Public Relations Liaison between the community and churches, senior centers, and other similar community organizations.
- Plays a key role in planning events that encourage the participation of families and prospective residents.
- Plans, coordinates, and participates in a variety of social events, outings, and on-site activities to address resident social, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs.
- Negotiates vendor and venue pricing and contracts for both on-site and off-site events.
- Books local, regional, and national entertainers for on-site and/or off-site events.
- Coordinates logistics including transportation, hotel accommodations, food and beverage service, and community staffing for all day and over-night community travel and trips.
- Develops and manages event and travel budgets including resident ticket and transportation costs.
- Handles event billing, payment of invoices, and financial closure.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of activity supplies and equipment and follows appropriate community protocol for purchasing.
- Oversees the community transportation program, ensuring all team members who operate a vehicle maintain complete compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Establishes community transportation systems including a weekly community transportation schedule and process for requesting transportation services and confirmation of requests.
- Coordinates and schedules resident transportation program; drives community vehicle as necessary.
- Monitors vehicle safety, partners with Maintenance to ensure all annual vehicle inspections and safety checks are completed to ensure the vehicles meet operational standards.
- Recruits, trains, and schedules an adequate number of volunteers to support the community activity program.
- Supports the team in ensuring that all resident care and activity is provided in a safe and effective manner, while consistently maintaining resident dignity, choice, and respect.
- Ensures the preparation, set-up, implementation, and clean-up of community events and programs.
- Maintains the activity area ensuring supplies are maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Maintains knowledge of current OSHA and state regulations, and routinely monitors facility compliance with the regulations related to resident care and social interaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in related field such as fine arts, social science, recreational therapy, or gerontology preferred.
- Professional certification as a catering/event planner such as CSEP, CIC, MPI, or CPCE preferred.
- 2 years’ experience working in senior living environment, and/or social activity leadership.
- Previous supervisory and/or management experience in a related setting preferred.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with residents, families, and team members.
- CNA, equivalent, or previous experience working with the elderly in a residential or long-term care setting preferred.
- Must meet all health-related requirements pertaining to state licensure.
- Must maintain current CPR/First Aid credentials.
- Must maintain current Food Handlers credentials.
- Must maintain annual Continuing Education credits.
- 2 years of professional driving experience in the operation of a bus or van used for transporting clients preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within specified timeframe after hire.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills, including Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to re-prioritize daily tasks, in order to accommodate fluctuating needs of the residents and the facility.
- Ability to represent the Community in a positive and professional manner.
