Intellectual Property Attorney - The Toro Company

About the role

We are seeking an Intellectual Property Attorney to provide legal counsel and advocacy for our intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and domain names. You will also help avoid infringing on others' intellectual property.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patentability analysis, including searching, evaluating, preparing claim strategy, and drafting applications.
• Provide IP infringement avoidance counseling.
• Support IP lawsuits, with and through the assistance of in-house and external counsel.
• Maintain awareness of competitive IP landscapes.
• Support IP agreements, including license agreements, joint development agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and consulting agreements.
• Perform supervised merger and acquisition due diligence with respect to IP matters.

Requirements

• Basic qualifications include a science/engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent technical credits, Juris Doctorate degree, registration exam eligibility, and licensing to practice in relevant jurisdictions.
• Experience includes 1+ years as a registered patent attorney, sound judgment, ability to balance business needs and legal requirements, and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience with USPTO patent prosecution.
• Proven partnership with inside and outside legal counsel and teams.
• Technical experience and strong organizational and project management skills.
• A proactive, enthusiastic, and flexible demeanor.
