About the role

The JCAE Integrated English Language Transition Coach supports JCCC’s mission by supporting English Language Learning (ELL) and English Connection (EC) students in achieving academic, career, and community success. In this role, the coach removes barriers by connecting students to essential resources like housing, transportation, and childcare, while assisting internationally trained professionals with transcript evaluation and credential translation. The incumbent acts as an international and immigrant onboarding specialist, guiding students through admissions, financial aid, and enrollment to ensure smooth transitions from non-credit to credit programs. The incumbent provides career planning and job placement support, assists with community outreach, maintains student performance data, and participates in professional development to effectively serve diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Connect students with essential support services (transportation, childcare, housing, food, etc.) to eliminate barriers that might otherwise impede their academic progress.
  • Stay current with community resources available to meet basic needs and cultivate relationships with agencies that provide them to promote students' ease of access to resources.
  • Initiates ongoing contact with JCAE students and instructors to inform them of the support and services available.
  • Follows up promptly and thoroughly with students in crisis, referring them to appropriate providers with warm hand-offs when possible.
  • Help students explore and research career options to determine their career and life goals, and work with them to develop strategies to achieve them.
  • Attend JCAE student orientations to provide students and teachers with information about Transition Coach services.
  • Work with students who are internationally trained professionals to obtain, translate and interpret transcripts from international colleges and universities for placement in the US workforce.
  • Work with students to explore career options, preparation requirements, demand projections for future employment, compensation expectations, and other considerations associated with career choices.
  • Work with students to set realistic career and life goals that excite them.
  • Support enrollment at JCCC (applying to the college, applying for financial aid, preparing for placement testing, selecting courses, engaging with JCCC Counselors, enrolling in classes, purchasing materials and textbooks, connecting students with JCCC resources, etc.).
  • Research and resolve barriers to assist students through the enrollment process.
  • Promote benefits, and outcomes of academic program offerings to prospective students.
  • Coordinate with offices campus-wide to facilitate prospective student exploration and navigation.
  • Assess the needs and goals of current JCAE English language learners and guide students to appropriate academic programs at JCCC.
  • Assist learners with applying to JCCC, including guiding them through the admissions process, test preparation, financial aid forms, scholarship applications, campus tours, course enrollment (with assistance from JCCC Counselors), purchasing books and supplies, etc.
  • Write student recommendation letters for JCCC and JCAE scholarships and awards.
  • Collect and report student data for internal use and meet JCCC and Kansas state reporting requirements.
  • Develop a proactive communication plan to help onboard students.
  • Generate interest in JCCC at different levels within the JCAE ELL and EC programs.
  • Communicate JCCC enrollment processes to both JCAE ELL and EC students.
  • Communicate JCCC and JCAE Scholarship opportunities to both JCAE ELL and EC students.
  • Maintain contact with students as they begin new jobs to support them in adjusting and succeeding in their new roles.
  • Attend professional workshops, trainings, and conferences to update knowledge and techniques for onboarding international and immigrant students.
  • Ensure Professional Development is focused on student recruiting, college enrollment, and non-native speakers.
  • Participate in conferences, workshops and webinars that are used to gain knowledge applicable to the position.
  • Share new learning among other Transition Coaches and English language acquisition colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in adult education as an instructor, and/or advisor, mentor, or coach.
  • Available for flexible scheduling, including weekday evenings.
  • Knowledge of functions and processes associated with college admissions, financial aid, and internationally trained professionals.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

    Pay

    $20.93 - $26.94 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.
