Integrated Basic Education & Skills Training (I-BEST) Adjunct

Olympic College is continuously seeking skilled Basic Studies adjunct faculty to fill positions within the Integrated Basic Education & Skills Training (I-BEST) program. Our I-BEST programs are team-taught by professional technical and basic skills faculty, serving students from diverse educational, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Basic Studies/Adult Education and may involve work at the Bremerton, Shelton, or Poulsbo campuses.

About the role

Part-time adjunct positions are reviewed quarter-by-quarter. Applicants remain active in the pool for 12 months and may be contacted when vacancies arise. This role involves team-teaching in I-BEST classroom and laboratory settings, supporting students in math and basic skills within programs such as Manufacturing, Nursing Assistant Certified, Computer Information Systems, or Business Technology.

Responsibilities

• Team-teach with professional-technical instructors in I-BEST programs.
• Administer Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) appraisals, pre-tests, and post-tests; collect, submit, and analyze data for program reporting in the Web-based Adult Basic Education Reporting System (WABERS).
• Collaborate with instructors to develop courses and curricula.
• Manage record-keeping in compliance with federal and state requirements.
• Consult with students to set, document, and monitor progress toward personal and educational goals.
• Provide quality instruction, including preparation and grading.
• Provide class syllabi to students and the division office as requested.
• Maintain accurate student records and complete required forms.
• Attend quarterly Basic Studies meetings; may require evening instruction.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in adult/developmental education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.
• Two years of full-time equivalent (FTE) experience teaching adults.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in adult/developmental education, TESOL, or Applied Linguistics.
• Two years of FTE teaching experience in a community college setting.
• Experience implementing Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges’ Basic Skills requirements, including familiarity with Washington Adult Learning Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS).

Pay

$1,000 per credit, contracted on a quarterly basis. Final salary is determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits.

Adjunct faculty are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire. After working 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters, the following benefits may become available:
