Pay: $3,000 per 1.5 credit-hour course, $6,000 per 3 credit-hour course

About the School

The School of Data and Information Sciences (SDIS) was founded in 2026 by joining the School of Information and Library Science (established 1931) and the School of Data Science and Society (established 2022). SDIS combines excellence in information and library science with leadership in data science, including computational and statistical methods and societal applications. The School is home to a top-ranked library and information science program, the Carolina Health Informatics Program (CHIP), and the Center for Information, Technology and Public Life (CITAP).

SDIS teaches and trains undergraduate and graduate students in data science, health informatics, information science, and library science, offering certificates for adult learners. The School conducts research across the data and information lifecycle, emphasizing human-centric, ethical, and applied approaches. Committed to data, information, and AI literacy for all, SDIS faculty address pressing community needs and global challenges.

Responsibilities

• Teach live, online, synchronous, and asynchronous class sessions using a standardized course syllabus and pre-developed instructional materials.
• Engage students in discussions, applying your expertise to help them connect course content to real-world problems.
• Provide verbal and written feedback on student work and assign grades.
• Establish and communicate regular office hours to support student learning and address questions or issues related to the course.
• Maintain regular communication with the ILS Division Chair regarding student experiences, potential barriers, and ideas for course enhancement.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate or terminal degree in the same or closely related discipline as the course taught.
• In lieu of a terminal degree, instructors may qualify through professional experience or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Significant work and/or teaching experience directly related to the course being taught.
• Experience teaching in higher education.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively manage group discussions.
• Strong writing skills, with experience providing feedback on written assignments.
