About the Role
Functions as a point person for coordination of new patient consult requests to provide a smooth transition of patient care for entry into the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center system. Schedules all new and PET/CT patients for their first appointment and collaborates with patient access and navigation as needed. Ensures all documentation specific to the patient’s diagnosis is received prior to the first appointment. Assists designated physician(s) in a variety of professional and paraprofessional patient care activities as specified and requested.
Responsibilities
- Coordination of new patient intake and care for all physicians
- Scheduling of all new consult patients
- Coordination and scheduling of PET/CT referrals
- Coordination of patient care services
- Specialized nursing care of radiation oncology patients, including patient assessments and education
- Participation in brachytherapy procedures
Qualifications
- Nursing diploma (ASN or BSN) from an approved program
- Active RN or LPN license in the state of Louisiana
- BLS CPR certification required
- Minimum of 2 years of general nursing experience
- Oncology nursing experience highly preferred
- ONS/OCN certification highly preferred
