Insurance Specialist - Insurance Verification
Overview
Insurance Verification Specialists help patients navigate their insurance coverage during medical treatments. They are part of Willamette Valley Cancer Institute’s Revenue Cycle Team, assisting with patient readiness and insurance verification.
Responsibilities
- Calls insurance companies to verify patient benefits.
- Completes insurance verification and summary of reimbursement and liability forms.
- Reviews and corrects demographic and insurance information in patient accounts.
- Sets up insurance referrals for scheduled patients.
- Notes information received from insurance companies and forwards completed information.
- Maintains manuals, logs, and other required documentation.
- Aids in ensuring all insurance, demographic, and eligibility information is accurately entered into the system.
- Supports patient confidentiality and follows policies to maintain clinic/corporation integrity.
- Assists with covering and assisting other business office functions as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2+ years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction.
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience required.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, medical insurance terms, and estimate of benefits (EOB).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Programs, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
