About the role

As an Insurance Specialist, you will follow up on patient accounts and confirm the accuracy of those accounts to ensure payor and patient payments are received in an appropriate amount of time.

In this role, you use your investigative skills to determine the reasoning for aging claims and recognize any trends among these aging claims. Your customer service skills will allow you to respectfully communicate with payors and compassionately work with our patients to collect payments. While it can be challenging to balance persistence to resolve an account with empathy, your professionalism allows you to do just that!

Responsibilities

  • Review and audit aging patient accounts to ensure accurate and timely payments and report any inconsistencies found.
  • Provide exceptional customer service in conversations with patients, coworkers, and other professionals through communicating respectfully, thoroughly listening to all shared details, and asking appropriate questions.
  • Identify errors on accounts and follow through to conclusion.
  • Communicate in a timely manner with payors, collection agencies, coworkers, and patients.
  • Back up other members of the billing department with verifying and obtaining all necessary patient insurance and benefit coverage information.
  • Jump in and help out with any additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate's degree in a business-related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) is a must.
  • You either live in the Knoxville area or are in the process of relocating.
  • This role is fully onsite and does not offer remote or hybrid work options.
  • At least one year of prior experience in a similar position (accounts receivable, insurance verification, electronic billing) is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • The position will require sitting for long periods of time with occasional stooping, bending, and stretching for supplies.
  • Any lifting should be limited to 30 pounds or less.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity for operating office equipment (keyboard, telephone, copier, etc.).
  • Vision and hearing must be adequate for viewing computer screens for prolonged periods of time and hearing customers during in-person and telephone conversations.
