About the role

The immediate vacancy is located in the Rate and Policy Analysis (RPA) Branch of the Insurance Division of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. The RPA Branch is responsible for the development and implementation of systems and procedures for the conduct and analysis of rate and policy filings of all domestic, foreign and alien insurance companies for compliance with State insurance laws.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and analyze policy provisions and rates for all classes of insurance, including the most difficult cases, and for all insurance organizations subject to State regulation for compliance with statutes, rules regulations, and to protect the public interest;
  • Conduct supporting research;
  • Recommend action by the supervisor or insurance commissioner on rates and policy provisions;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization To Work Requirement: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with six semester credits in statistics and/or mathematics.
  • Specialized Experience: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the analysis of insurance rates and policies including the examination of insurance rates and rating procedures for conformance with the insurance codes and rules and regulations and the examination of insurance policies for consistency, clarity, and proper coverage as required by the insurance codes and rules and regulations.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Possession of a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) or Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certificate obtained through a written examination may be substituted for one-half (1/2) year of Specialized Experience. Successful completion of parts 3 through 6 of the Casualty Actuarial Society examinations may be substituted for two (2) years of Specialized Experience.
