CURE Auto Insurance is a leading direct writer of auto insurance in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. We offer a great working environment and are seeking experienced Insurance Defense Attorneys to join our growing legal team. This role involves managing a diverse caseload, representing clients in complex insurance defense matters, and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Location: Southfield, MI
Relocation bonus: Available for candidates who relocate within 40 miles of the Southfield office.

About the Role

The ideal candidate is licensed in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, or Wisconsin with the ability and willingness to obtain Michigan bar admission. This position offers the opportunity to work as internal counsel, strategizing and managing representation of CURE in PIP and Coverage litigation cases.

Responsibilities

  • Work as internal counsel in conjunction with claims to strategize, implement, and manage representation of CURE in PIP and Coverage litigation cases in both Forthright and the Superior Court, from inception to conclusion, by trial or dispositive hearing.
  • Evaluate and provide detailed analysis of assigned cases in accordance with CURE’s staff counsel policies and procedures, including trial and expense control.
  • Collaborate with CURE’s Claims Department to establish, communicate, and implement team litigation objectives and obtain prompt resolution of claims.
  • Prepare and respond to arbitration demands and/or pleadings and discovery.
  • Prepare and handle arbitration submissions and Rule 35 applications for dismissal in Forthright matters.
  • Plan, take, and defend Examinations Under Oath (EUO) and depositions.
  • Attend Forthright arbitrations, motion hearings, arbitration hearings, and all other pre-trial matters.
  • Prepare for and try cases.
  • Draft and argue post-arbitration/trial motions and appeals in both Forthright and the Superior Court.
  • Negotiate high-level settlement agreements.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission in Ohio, Indiana, or Illinois (ability to obtain Michigan bar admission within a reasonable timeframe).
  • 5–10 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Strong litigation, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Critical thinking, complex information analysis, and problem-solving with expedience.
  • Highly collaborative working style with a commitment to meeting individual and team goals.
  • Adaptability and proficiency with multiple computer systems.

Pay

  • Starting Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Sign-On & Relocation Bonus: $20,000 total
    • $10,000 paid after 30 days of employment and relocation to the Southfield, Michigan office vicinity (within 40 miles).
    • $10,000 paid upon successful admission to the Michigan Bar.
  • Performance Bonus and Flexible Schedule Incentive: Quarterly bonus potential tied to measurable success, with additional remote flexibility opportunities.

Schedule

  • Flexible work hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM (e.g., 8–4, 8:30–4:30, or 9–5).
  • Hybrid schedule: Onsite four days a week, remote one day a week.
  • After a 90-day orientation period, additional performance-based remote flexibility and bonus opportunities may be available.

Work Environment

Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting, and typing for extended periods; and lifting and/or carrying up to 5 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing. Ability to read, understand, process, and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions.
