We are working with an international firm seeking an Insurance Coverage & Litigation Associate to join their growing team in New York City.
About the role
The team provides advice to global insurers and their insureds across a wide spectrum of insurance classes, with a particular focus on complex coverage issues and reinsurance matters. The firm offers a flexible hybrid schedule (as few as 3–4 days per month in office).
Responsibilities
- Manage caseload and/or support Partners and colleagues on larger complex insurance claims (e.g., coverage and declaratory judgment litigation in state and federal court).
- Analyze and apply legal principles and facts to derive technically sound, commercial strategies for complex cases and insurance policy coverage issues.
- Draft coverage opinions, position letters, and related analyses.
- Draft and review correspondence, reports, and litigation documents.
- Maintain caseload in good organizational shape and in accordance with client quality and service level agreements.
Requirements
- At least three years of insurance coverage litigation experience.
- Primary and excess general liability coverage work experience preferred; candidates with an insurance background in other lines of business (such as D&O, E&O, EPL, LPL, or Cyber) and litigation will also be considered.
- Experience managing discovery, including taking and defending depositions, is strongly preferred.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New York Bar.
- Ability to run your own caseload and work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of state court and federal court practice and procedure, as well as strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to think and act quickly, and to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional client service and communication skills.
