Purpose and Scope

As an Insurance Coordinator, you will meet regularly with dialysis patients to educate and coordinate insurance options. You will also assist with Medicare and Medicaid applications, monitor patients' insurance status, and prepare monthly reports.

Principles and Responsibilities

- Educates patients on alternative insurance options such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Medicare Supplement plans. - Ensures patients follow through with insurance application processes. - Obtains premium statements and signatures from patients. - Discusses insurance options when employment status changes or other situations arise. - Completes and follows up with paperwork when claims are disputed for non-payment. - Collects necessary documents to complete indigent waivers. - Discusses insurance options when insurance contracts are terminated. - Tracks 30-month coordination period for patients on employer Group Health Plans. - Monitors and verifies the Medicaid status of each patient monthly. - Works with patients to evaluate personal financial information and determine eligibility for indigent programs. - Completes initial Indigent waiver applications. - Monitors all patients' insurance information to ensure accuracy in the billing system. - Addresses any identified anomalies or discrepancies. - Prepares, analyzes, and reviews monthly reports to track work progress. - Provides QA team members with monthly information regarding patients' primary and secondary insurance status. - Completes monthly audit exams to stay current on internal policies. - May present insurance and financial assistance options to patients as necessary.

Day-to-day work includes desk and personal computer work, and interaction with patients and facility staff. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. Supervision

No supervision is required.

Education

A bachelor’s degree is preferred, with a social work or healthcare focus. A high school diploma would require a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar position or insurance experience.

Experience and Required Skills

  • 2-5 years’ related experience in the healthcare industry, particularly in Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid systems
  • Experience with Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid systems a plus
  • Past patient interaction a plus
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • A strong customer service philosophy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid Driver’s License
