Instrumentation Helper -Various Locations

About the role

An Instrumentation Helper assists a Journeyman to layout, fabricate, assemble, repair and install instruments, both electronic and pneumatic, including primary piping, tubing, and other instrument needs. At Level IV, the role is competent to complete Journeyman-level Instrument tasks with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist in layout and installation in accordance with instructions or work requirements using drawings, blueprints, sketches, and manuals.
• Measure, thread, cut, and assemble cable tray and cable tray support systems under the direct supervision of a Journeyman.
• Assist in installing tubing and clamps into cable tray systems.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install tubing and piping.
• Utilize hand, hydraulic, and power tools.
• Drill and tap holes in structures and attach brackets, guards, etc., in accordance with the guidance of a Journeyman.
• Operate man lifts, scissor lifts, overhead cranes, band saws, hose cutting/crimping devices, pressure pumps, and hydraulic pumping units as determined by the site.
• Inspect and maintain tools.
• Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles and follow the Yates Code of Conduct.
• Adhere to safety responsibilities and expectations, including refusing unsafe work and following established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
• Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
• Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
• Participate in workplace inspections and required training.
• Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
• Provide suggestions to improve safety.
• Attend prestart and safety meetings and contribute.
• Perform other work-related tasks as assigned by Field Supervision.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
• Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
• Successful completion of required Safety training, including but not limited to Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.

Qualifications

• Level IV: Thirty-six (36) + months of heavy industrial-related instrument experience.
• Level III: Twenty-four (24) to thirty-five (35) months of heavy industrial-related instrument experience.
• Level II: Twelve (12) to twenty-three (23) months of heavy industrial-related instrument experience.
• Level I: Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial-related instrument experience or one (1) year of industrial experience.
• Other verified experiences or certifications with instrument experience may apply.

Physical Demands

• Work in all weather conditions at varying temperatures.
• Work at varying elevations, including windy and dusty environments.
• Exposure to moderate to high noise levels.
• Work on project sites containing light to heavy equipment vehicles, materials, communication equipment, and tools.
• Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
• Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above.
• Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
• Ability to talk and hear to communicate effectively.
• Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
• Use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
