Instrument Technician - Commercial Land Surveying

About the role
The Land Surveying Commercial Instrument Tech participates in the daily activities of a two-to-three-person Field Survey Crew, collecting on-the-ground survey data under the direction of a Party Chief. This outdoor role involves various client settings and moderate noise levels, requiring physical activities such as standing, walking, using tools, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50–75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Works with and as directed by Party Chief to collect survey data in a timely manner.
- Operates and maintains all assigned equipment and work vehicle(s) as directed by Party Chief.
- Ensures equipment is secure, charged, and ready to operate.
- Keeps work vehicle stocked with necessary supplies.
- Downloads and uploads survey data, including field notes, data collector files, and project photos.
- Represents the company in a positive, safe, ethical, and professional manner in accordance with Windrose/Exacta policies.
- Works with Party Chief to resolve internal/external customer issues promptly and professionally.
- Communicates with Field Operations Manager for resolution when necessary.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, managers, clients, and other parties.
- Performs all other duties as assigned to meet business needs in a positive, safe, ethical, and professional manner.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Dependable and reliable regarding punctuality and attendance.
- Effective communicator and results-oriented team player.
- Positive, flexible, and proactive attitude.
- Poised under pressure and committed to excellent client service.
- Knowledge of basic field survey procedures, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of basic First Aid for outdoor/work-related injuries.
- Able to operate and set up survey-related equipment and software with direction.
- Able to perform basic arithmetic and mathematical calculations.
- Able to work as a positive team member.
- Able to interpret basic maps and other survey-related documents.
Additional Conditions
- Work in all types of weather (cold, hot, rainy, humid days).
- Perform heavy-duty outdoor activities, including:
- Standing in the sun with equipment for at least 8 hours a day.
- Hiking and walking all day with supplies and equipment through mud, ice, dirt, or vegetated/unstable grounds.
- Hammering iron rods into the ground (at least 100 a day).
- Cutting lines through heavily wooded areas using machetes, axes, or other hand tools.
- Traversing obstacles inside and outside property bounds.
- Safely and legally operate a motor vehicle at any given time.

Schedule
Monday through Friday with some weekends required during seasonal months. Team members will service the San Antonio surrounding counties and report to the office in Selma.
