Instrument Person - Survey

About the role

As an Instrument Person at LJA Surveying, you will be responsible for transporting, operating, and setting up instruments and equipment associated with the performance of land surveying activities on a survey crew.

A typical day might include:

• Receiving direction from the Party Chief
• Transporting, operating, and setting up instruments and equipment for surveying land and preparing job sites for construction activities
• Clearing brush or trees away from survey lines
• Laying out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED
• Valid State driver’s license
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the day-to-day activities of a survey crew
• Proficiency in the operation of various surveying instruments including total stations, data collectors, levels, GPS equipment, etc.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of the requirements for various types of surveys
• Ability to perform basic surveying calculations

Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting/carrying of 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds
• Driving to and from various project sites
• Walking and working outdoors under variable weather and site conditions
