Instrument & Controls Technician
Guardian Glass is looking for a motivated Instrument and Controls Technician to join our team in Corsicana, TX. This role focuses on maintaining production machines and plant facility equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, to ensure efficiency and quality glass production.
About the Role
You’ll operate and monitor automated float glass production lines, including glass melting, forming, annealing lehr, cutting, edging, washing, and packaging. This role supports our facility in producing high-quality glass that meets customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Start up and shut down equipment per procedures; perform line changeovers and product grade changes.
- Monitor process parameters (temperatures, conveyor speeds, atmosphere, level controls) and adjust controls to maintain product specifications and stable throughput.
- Inspect glass for visual/functional defects and take immediate corrective actions; segregate nonconforming product and notify quality/engineering.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks and basic mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting; coordinate complex repairs with the maintenance team.
- Execute equipment reliability activities (daily checks, lubrication, filter changes, alignment checks) and report abnormal trends.
- Follow and contribute to continuous improvement efforts (root cause analysis, Kaizen events, SPC, OEE improvement) to reduce downtime, scrap, and cycle time.
- Maintain accurate production, maintenance, and quality records (shift logs, defect logs, downtime reasons, production counts).
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory policies; use PPE and follow lockout/tagout, hot work, and confined-space procedures as required.
- Train and mentor junior operators; participate in shift handovers and cross-functional meetings.
Requirements
- One or more of the following:
- Associate/Technical degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, or Electronic Technology.
- A minimum of two or more years of Electrical/Electronic/Controls troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing or military environment.
- Experience reading and following electrical and maintenance schematics/blueprints.
- Experience utilizing electrical test devices such as Ammeters, Voltmeters, and Ohmmeters.
- Experience in PLC systems, including understanding PLC ladder logic.
- Proficiency in computer skills with MS Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Fanuc or Industrial Robotics in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working within a Power Plant, Pulp and Paper, Converting, Palletizing, and/or Automation Equipment operations.
- Experience with Servos and Servo Controllers.
- Experience with PLC programming logic and troubleshooting equipment while online with the PLC.
- Experience with systems integration, including advanced PLC troubleshooting and understanding Arrays and Servo control within PLC logic.
- Experience with HMI Programming.
- Five or more years of manufacturing or industrial experience inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical and Instrumentation equipment.
Schedule
10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. Holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
