About the Role

Serves as a Trio Summer Academy STEM instructor for high school students (9th grade–12th grade) in the Trio Summer Academy. This is a six-week instructional assignment (June–July) with planning meetings commencing in June. The instructor will work approximately 12–15 hours per week, between 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm, Monday–Thursday.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches STEM to high school students (9th grade–12th grade)
  • Provides classroom supervision
  • Monitors and keeps daily log of student attendance, behavior, and academic development
  • Assists in the development of daily lesson plans and formative & summative assessments
  • Develops and maintains class syllabi and grade reports
  • Provides a comprehensive written summary on each class taught
  • Develops engaging and hands-on lessons to facilitate teaching and learning

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field
  • Experience teaching STEM to high school and/or college students
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to stand and walk a large portion of the work day
  • Ability to work a variety of flexible hours during the day
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
  • Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (preferably in a STEM-related field or STEM/Science education)
  • Experience working with a Trio program

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an indoor environment
  • Environment requires clear voice projection in a classroom setting
  • May involve exposure to conditions affecting the respiratory system (e.g., fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation)
  • May require walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (e.g., papers, files, pamphlets, books)
  • May require travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

Pay

$25.25 per hour

Schedule

Part-time, approximately 12–15 hours per week, between 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm, Monday–Thursday (June–July).
