Position Summary
The successful candidate will teach a standard 18 contact hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, which may include face-to-face, online, or dual-credit/early college courses. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in Anatomy & Physiology or General Biology.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses with emphasis on Anatomy & Physiology or General Biology.
- Utilize diverse teaching methods and materials to address varied student learning needs.
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Hold regular office hours (minimum one hour daily) for student support.
Biological Sciences
- Participate in academic advising, curriculum development, and recruitment activities.
- Engage in assessment, program improvement, and accreditation processes.
- Serve on committees and attend institutional events such as convocation and graduation.
- Participate in professional development to maintain instructional and disciplinary expertise.
Minimum Qualifications
- Instructor Rank: Master’s degree with at least 18 upper-division credit hours in Biology.
- Assistant Professor Rank: Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience in General Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology.
- Experience teaching lower-division majors and health-science biology courses.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with college-level online instruction and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
- Science Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, diverse learning styles, and student success.
- Experience mentoring or advising students in academic or research settings.
Required Skills And Abilities
- Ability to plan and deliver effective instruction aligned with approved syllabi and course objectives.
- Flexibility in adopting innovative teaching styles and methods to reach diverse learners.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Del Mar College.
