Position Summary

The successful candidate will teach a standard 18 contact hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, which may include face-to-face, online, or dual-credit/early college courses. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in Anatomy & Physiology or General Biology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses with emphasis on Anatomy & Physiology or General Biology.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods and materials to address varied student learning needs.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Hold regular office hours (minimum one hour daily) for student support.

Biological Sciences

  • Participate in academic advising, curriculum development, and recruitment activities.
  • Engage in assessment, program improvement, and accreditation processes.
  • Serve on committees and attend institutional events such as convocation and graduation.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain instructional and disciplinary expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Instructor Rank: Master’s degree with at least 18 upper-division credit hours in Biology.
  • Assistant Professor Rank: Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in General Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology.
  • Experience teaching lower-division majors and health-science biology courses.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with college-level online instruction and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Science Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, diverse learning styles, and student success.
  • Experience mentoring or advising students in academic or research settings.

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to plan and deliver effective instruction aligned with approved syllabi and course objectives.
  • Flexibility in adopting innovative teaching styles and methods to reach diverse learners.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Del Mar College.
