About the role
The Program in Jewish Culture and Society at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an Instructor/Lecturer position to teach Hebrew and develop the Hebrew program. Additional ability to teach Hebrew literature, Israeli culture, Yiddish, or other relevant courses in Jewish Studies is preferred.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a Master’s degree (Instructor) or a Ph.D. (Lecturer) in Hebrew language, Hebrew literature, Second Language Acquisition, or related field.
- Candidates must be able to offer proficiency-based language instruction and demonstrate professional level proficiency in Hebrew and English.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have advanced graduate work in Hebrew and/or a closely related field, have a record of effective language teaching at the college level, or have a demonstrated record of teaching and curricular/program development in a non-college setting.
- Preference will be given to candidates who show evidence of teaching effectiveness as well as the ability to design an effective, proficiency-based two-year language sequence and to train/supervise instructors with little or no previous teaching experience.
Appointment Information
- This is a 100% full-time non-tenure track position, appointed on a 9-month basis.
- The budgeted salary for the position is $60,000.
- The teaching load for Instructor/Lecturer is 3:3.
- The expected start date is August 16, 2026.
