Job Summary
Aids in teaching programs aimed at the education of youth and/or adults through various Parks and Recreation activities, including beginner sports, dance classes, homeschool physical education, cheerleading, tumbling, and activities for individuals with special needs.
Job Duties
- Teaches a program based on the lesson plan provided by MPRD Staff or the Instructor II.
- Notifies, instructs, and corrects participant behavior that does not comply with program rules in a fair, timely, and polite manner.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, and coworkers, both verbally and in writing.
- Performs facility opening/closing responsibilities as directed.
- Maintains cooperative professional relationships with colleagues and the community.
- Provides basic first aid for minor injuries that may occur during supervision.
- Displays a strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Delivers excellent customer service and embodies the department's mission.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Preferred knowledge and skills include experience or interest in teaching participants aged 3 to 18 years old, knowledge of applicable areas of responsibility, and experience with sports, game rules, and dance styles/techniques.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work facilities include Anthony and Eisenhower Recreation Centers, Douglass Activity Center, Eisenhower Baseball Fields, and Manhattan High School East Campus.
- Weeknights and weekend mornings are common work days.
- Noise and activity levels vary.
- Requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands, handling objects, feeling, speaking, hearing, climbing stairs, pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 50 pounds.
