Instructor - Electrical
About the role
Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks an Instructor - Electrical in the Division of Technical Education. This is an unclassified faculty position with a 9‑month appointment.
Responsibilities
- Teaching (75%): Provide learning experiences aligned with student needs; use learning resources; assess student learning per college policy; distribute course syllabus and schedule; maintain minimum 10 office hours per week; meet all scheduled classes on time; advise students and assist with registration, orientation, and recruitment as needed; follow approved master course syllabi; keep accurate grade and attendance records; submit syllabi, office hours, grades, attendance, electronic time sheets, and other reports by deadlines; maintain Industry Based Certification (IBC) and accreditation requirements; keep current AWS and/or NCCER certifications.
- Administrative (10%): Notify dean/department chair of absence with a course substitution plan promptly; attend all departmental, division, and general faculty meetings; attend convocations and participate in graduation exercises in appropriate academic regalia; adhere to professional standards of conduct; participate in the faculty evaluation process.
- Service (5%): Contribute to the college and discipline through collaboration and service; represent BRCC and engage the community’s business and industry.
- Professional Development (5%): Engage in continual professional development related to pedagogy, assessment, and faculty area of expertise.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%).
Requirements
- Experience: 3 years of relevant electrical experience.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced written and oral communication skills; ability to work well with others at all levels inspiring trust, confidence, and integrity; interpersonal skills to handle student concerns; proficient organizational skills; working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office products; ability to convey knowledge and skills to students, presenting ideas and facts concisely and accurately; basic mechanical ability.
- Licenses or Certifications: NCCER certifications required.
Qualifications
- Preferred Education: Associate degree in any field or commitment to an educational program leading to an Associate degree or higher.
- Preferred Experience: Previous teaching experience preferred; applicants must possess at least 3 years of Electrical experience and industry‑based certifications.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Dynamic reading skills and speaking voice; ability to generate class materials, reports, and master operation and skills to maximize productivity through best practices and planning; excellent leadership, communication, critical thinking, teamwork skills; willingness to think outside the box; equivalent combination of education, training, and on‑the‑job experience to prepare students as successful technicians; higher education teaching experience; ability to provide subject matter expertise and counsel.
